While I was in Guangzhou I spent a day visiting a vendor on behalf of a client of mine. My client has never done business with this vendor but is interested in building a relationship with them based on the quality and costs of their samples. I went first to the vendorfs office which is on the outskirts of Guangzhou and, after lunch, we went to a couple of factories, one big factory and one small factory. Small manufacturers and trading companies in China will often have two factories, one which they own for small orders and then a larger FTY which they contract for larger orders. The big factory in this case was impressive. I did not see an idle sewing machine and the sample room resembled an active bee hive. The smaller FTY, on the other hand, did not give the impression of being busy and my visit there was an interesting one for many reasons.
